There is nothing like a freshly cleaned house. I love the feel and fragrances that you can enjoy after you have finished with your work.
That is why I was interested when a Facebook friend posted pictures of her lovely porch after it had been freshly “lavendered”. I had to look at the word twice because I thought she meant laundered but no, it was indeed, lavendered.
It is funny how homeschooling mothers run in the same circles. Geanine and I went to school together but never really knew each other. We have mutual acquaintances in my old home town (which is 250 miles away) and my aunt, who used to go to church with Geanine was the one who recommended that we be friends. I am certainly glad that she did because Geanine and I have a lot in common. From being crazy about our husbands to homeschooling our children and creating a beautiful, loving home, we are two peas in a pod.
But I digress.
Geanine posted her recipe for Lavender all-purpose cleaner last night. I whipped up a big batch this morning and have been a cleanin fool ever since!
I have always liked the idea of making my own cleaning products but never made anything that worked as well as the old grocery store standbys….until now.
You have to try this! My house is shining and it smells so good! With the windows open, the sounds of our children playing outside and my sweetheart sitting here with me as I write this, all is right with the world. It doesn’t take much to make me happy, can you tell?
Here is the recipe.
2 Cups Warm Water
1 Teaspoon Borax
2 Teaspoons Vinegar
2 Teaspoons Lavender Essential Oil
1 Squirt of Dishwashing Liquid.
Mix together everything and pour into a spray bottle. I have used it to clean just about every surface in our house and it works so well!
*a note about the Lavender Essential Oil. Don’t use a fragrance oil. You must use an Essential Oil. Why? Because the lavender isn’t just there to make it smell good. Lavender is antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, and fungicidal so it makes a great cleaner. The fragrance is used in aromatherapy as it is very soothing.
